UTAH DAY.

                              October 20, 1898.

The Governor of Utah, accompanied by his staff and many prominent
residents of that state came to celebrate their day at the Exposition. The
exercises were held in the Auditorium at 11 o'clock A.M. The program was as
follows:

Music . . Omaha Concert Band
               Welcome . . . President Wattles
               Response . . . Governor H.M. Wells
               Music . . . Omaha Concert Band
               Address . . . President Lorenzo Snow,
                         of the Mormon Church.
               Address . . . Honorable George Q. Cannon
               Address . . . President Joseph Smith
                         of the Mormon Church.

The exercises were of special interest on account of the presence of
the governor of the state, and the three presidents of the Mormon church.
The early reminiscence of some of these men who had nearly a half century
before spent a winter at Florence, Nebraska, and had followed Brigham Young
across the then Great American Desert, were instructive, especially compared
with the present civilization which has grown up in the west during the lives
of these men.
