Sally has taught writing seminars at community colleges across the region as well as at national writing conferences. Designed for high school students and teachers, this full-day workshop includes information on the fundamentals of storytelling, the movie paradigm, creating characters, and the rules of dialogue and action. Great for Indoor Winter Projects!

The Library has added two new databases that may be the answer to the winter doldrums or cabin fever. If you've had projects that you've always meant to start or finish, you may want to look at Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center or Home Improvement Reference Center.

Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center™ includes full text for more than 960 magazines and books, as well as access to more than 720 videos and more than 140 hobby reports. It offers detailed "how-to" instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of virtually every hobby enthusiast. Subject areas include arts & crafts; collecting; games & electronics; model building; home & leisure; needlework; outdoors & nature; and scrapbooking & papercraft.

Home Improvement Reference Center™ is great for home improvement assistance, including maintenance, remodeling, electrical work, plumbing, wood projects, outdoor improvements, and decorating home & garden. This comprehensive resource contains 24 major reference works in full text with more than 10,000 images (none found available online anywhere else). Additionally, the database contains nearly 100 videos of popular home repair projects, a convenient A-Z browsing tool, and full-text magazines like This Old House.

Call the library to access these databases from home.

Library Space Assessment Findings

A Library Space Assessment was completed this spring with federal funds through the Nebraska Library Commission under the Library Services and Technology Act and with local support from the Wiebe-Ralston Foundation. The study focused on maximizing our current floor space rather than a larger facility. The architects found several ways to increase people spaces. Enclosing the teen area will add more computers and seating. In doing this, the computer lab could add four computers. Reworking the circulation desk and surrounding area would create more public space. Re-arranging and re-designing the work space of the youth services librarians would provide more storage, seating, and computers for children and families. Adjustments to the entrance, work room, and director's office were suggested, also.

The study is a step toward enhancing library service to the community, and, with your support, we can continue to meet your needs to our best capabilities. The library trustees are always working toward the future and are eager to set the stage for another 10 to 20 years.
